Booking Through "Pet Peeves"

What are your literary “pet peeves”?

I have many, I think.

  1) I don't like long descriptions
  2) I don't like use of swear words
  3) Graphic descriptions/porn put me off.
  4) Under-developed characters
  5) Abrupt endings
  6) Badly written work

Long descriptions are one of my pet peeves too. And I have to agree with the rest of yours as well. You can see my pet peeves here
Happy reading!

Overly descriptive writing drives me to distraction too.

Yep, I'm with you on the long descriptions. I didn't use to mind them so much, but now I find myself skipping long chunks of description. Here's mine: Small Blonde Hippy

I call myself a book snob because I hate badly written works. Poor writing is enough to make me abandon a novel.

Great points. I agree with most of them. Have a nice weekend!!

Good points! I especially dislike sloppy writing, which could fall into any of the categories you mentioned.

A long description never fails to tire me.

Great list! I agree with you on swear words (and particularly when it's not appropriate at all for the characters or the type of book--cozy mysteries, for example).

Oh yeah, badly written work is not a joy to read.
